Shake the Dust…

on February 6, 2012

is a national celebration of young people’s voices and the power of spoken word. It’s a nationwide youth poetry slam, giving young people the opportunity to work with leading spoken word poets to write, perform and compete with their words.

In the East Midlands there are 5 leading spoken word poets called Poet Coaches, of which I am one. My task, to work with a shadow poet, a young person wanting to develop their writing and performance skills. I will be working with Nathan Lunt from Leicester.

Also as a Poet Coach I am paired with a school/youth group. I have been paired with a group of young mums. I’m hoping they have the fire in their bellies to write some thought provoking poetry, compete with dignity and participate without regrets.

The more schemes like this there are in the UK to encourage people the better. Well done.
